Millions of European citizens voted to choose the representatives of the European Parliament during the weekend of June 6-9, 2024. The elections took place in the 27 member countries of the European Union to elect 720 European parliamentarians. It is the second-largest election in the world. The results demonstrated a shift towards right-wing parties in these elections. In the European Parliament, national parties from the member states usually form alliances that represent the idea of European parties based on similar ideas, proposals and ideologies.

In this way, the center-right European People’s Party will become the largest political group from the next legislature. This is the group that joins together representatives of the nationals Christian’s Democrats Parties. The group elected at least 186 parliamentarians, which represents more than 25 percent of the total seats available.
First official meeting in Strasbourg
Within five weeks of the election results, the new members of the European Parliament will meet to form parliamentary groups. The first plenary sessions are scheduled to take place from July 16 to 19 in Strasbourg.
The first session traditionally focuses on electing the new presidency of the parliament and the working commissions.
