Using topic modeling to analyze freedom of information law requests
Using topic modeling to research freedom of information law requests. I developed this Jupyter Notebook to analyze journalists’ requests via the Brazilian Freedom of Information Act (LAI) in the area of education from 2019 to 2020. In this notebook, the total amount of requests submitted by journalists in this period is analyzed, regardless of the government’s response.
The data generated by this model is part of the research on Media and Politics:
Weiss, C. E. (2024). Transparency in Education in the Bolsonaro Government: A Topic Modeling of Requests via the Brazilian Freedom of Information Act. The Asian Conference on Media, Communication & Film 2024: Official Conference Proceedings. MEDIASIA – The Asian Conference on Media, Communication & Film 2024, Kyoto, Japan.
To run the code, visit the Python notebook available here in Google Colab.
